The 2018 CPS Annual Meeting will be held in collaboration with the Quebec Society of Plant protection. The meeting will be held from June 17-20, 2018 at the Delta Hotel in Quebec City.

Abstract Submission and Guidelines

To ensure that the abstracts have a uniform format for rapid publication, please adhere to the following guidelines for submitting abstracts.

Format for abstracts submitted to the Canadian Journal of Plant Pathology from the annual meeting of the Canadian Phytopathological Society and from all regional meetings of the CPS:

The following is an example of how an abstract should appear. One section that some authors do not pay enough attention to with respect to format is the affiliations. Complete addresses should be given in the format shown below. Another area that some authors neglect is providing the scientific authorities for Latin names. If authors do not provide the correct format, they may be asked to do so before their abstract will be published.
Voici un exemple de mise en page d’un résumé. SVP s’assurer de bien inclure les organisations pour tous les auteurs. Également porter une attention particulière aux noms latins. Les résumés qui ne respectent pas cette mise en page devront être retravailler avant la publication.

The title of the abstract is to be bold. A. B. SMITH, C. B. JONES AND D. SMITH-JONES. The body of the abstract (not including the title, author names, and affiliations) should be carefully written to stay within the limit of 250 words. An abstract should contain a description of the problem, results, and concluding statement. The abstract should be concise with just enough information to introduce your subject and generate interest. Abstracts should be typed as single space. Use the text font Times New Roman and 12 po. Scientific authorities are to be given for all Latin names the first time they are mentioned in the body of the abstract. Cultivar names are to have single quotation marks around them every time they are mentioned. All abbreviations are to be spelled out in full the first time they are mentioned in the body of the text. Authors are to have their abstract(s) proofread by two colleagues for clarity and grammar.

The deadline for abstract submission is May 15.

Instructions for oral presentations: Oral presentations will be 15 minutes. This will include a 12 minute presentation and 3 minutes for questions. This should be strictly adhered to, especially for students in the oral competition. PowerPoint is a good tool for making presentations. Eachpresentation should have clear, appealing slides. The presentation should have a title slide, anintroduction to the importance of the work, and a clear objectives slide. Slides should not beovercrowded. Graphics and photographs are encouraged. A good rule of thumb is one minute for each slide, not including the title slide.

Instructions pour les présentations orales: les présentations orales sont d’une durée de 15 minutes. Cette période inclue 12 minutes pour la présentation et 3 minutes pour les questions de 3 minutes. Ce format doit être respecté tout particulièrement pour les étudiants participant à la compétition. Idéalement utiliser un logiciel comme PowerPoint. Les présentations doivent être claires et inclure une diapo pour le titre, une introduction et des objectifs. Ne pas surcharger les dispos. Généralement il faut prévoir plus ou moins une diapo par minute. L’utilisation de graphiques, diagramme, photos est encouragée.

Instructions for poster presentations: Posters should be prepared in a portrait format and be 3ft wide by 4 ft tall. Posters should be readable from a distance of 2 meters. For adequatevisibility, the font size should be a minimum of 30 point. Avoid overcrowding of tables andfigures. Each table and figure should have a legend and a title. Graphics are encouraged. The poster should be self-explanatory. PowerPoint is a good tool for making posters.

Instructions pour les affiches. Les affiches doivent être dans le format portrait (36 po largeur x 48 po hauteur maximum). Le texte doit pouvoir être lu à une distance de 2 mètres (minimum de 30pt pour la taille des caractères). Éviter de surcharger l’affiche, chaque tableau ou figure doit avoir un titre et une légende. L’affiche doit comprendre toute l’information requise pour la compréhension du contenu.
